Designed to fit with all three Zstory exhaust manifolds*, the line is made from 201 (austenitic) 1.25mm stainless-steel for its own protection and longevity, has a diameter of 63mm (2.5’’) and is composed of three parts (excluding the rear silencer/muffler).
Fitting to the manifold’s* Y-pipe collector is the centre silencer connecting to a short intermediate pipe fitting through the inverted ‘U’ in the differentiel front support before the ‘S’ pipe which passes around the rear of the differentiel and into the rear silencer/muffler.
Zstory kits are designed to fit no lower than the floor reinforcement rails and both 2x seater and 2+2 Zs.
Along the transmission tunnel, the line uses V-band clamp fittings for leak-free and quick/simple mounting/disassembly and at the ‘S’-pipe, a T-bolt clamp to allow the maximum adjustment flexibility.
The line is supplied with all necessary fittings ; clamps, straps, gaskets and nuts/bolts (where applicable) and Zstory holds stocks of fittings, gaskets or pipework in case of later street/road /competition damage or loss.
Depending upon its design and purpose, any exhaust system compromises something to give something else – no exhaust is ideal for all applications and at different engine speeds, different sized exhaust tubes are better than others… !
Two, small diameter pipes such as found on the S20 engine applications are best suited to a small capacity, high-revving engine to helkp generate low-end torque without penalising top-end power.
Engines with larger capacities have less need of extra low-down torque and strokers almost none, having ample quantities merely from their larger size.

Zstory exhaust systems are currently fitted to numerous competition cars – they have passed FIA homologation scrutiny but many more street, fast road and track-day versions also. It accompanies a wide range of engine sizes and states of preparation from L20As to the biggest strokers.
Zstory has chosen its current diameter to be the optimum for the majority of (normally-aspirated) engine applications; big enough to exit the gases quickly and easily at high engine revolutions, small enough to give some back-pressure and increase low-rev torque.
Seperate pipe-work to allow for:
– easier initial fitting,
– partial dismantling for easier servicing under the car – clutch, gearbox, brakes, suspension and differential,
– the replacement of any pipework due to accident damage, especially competition and lowered-street cars,
– less expensive expedition to clients as packing is more compact.
⇒ Solid T-bolt and V-band clamps for a secure and leak-proof exhaust line.
⇒ Stainless-steel ensures a long life – fit and forget!
⇒ Complete kit – all included for home fitting.
⇒ Snug fit as high as possible not only to avoid snagging but low systems look ‘untidy’.
⇒ Great ‘finished-look’ for your Z!
⇒ Available in 2x seater and 2+2 versions.
⇒ 63mm / 2.5’’ diameter tubing throughout
⇒ First silencer of 380mm long and 100mm** diameter
From 2017, whether 2x seater or 2+2, the Zstory exhaust line will be supplied without a rear silencer/muffler allowing you, the customer to choose your preference:
– Classic: the single-exit version
– JDM: the twin-exit version, commonly mistaken as a ‘Z432’ ; it was in fact optional on all JDM Fairlady Zs but OEM only on the Z432s.
*a new development in 2019 will see the production of a down-pipe to allow the Zstory exhaust line be fitted to an OEM exhaust manifold for those who wish to have a stainless-steel exhaust without removing their admission system and changing the OEM manifold.
**this silencer will evolve in late 2017 to become 127mm in diameter as the Zstory exhaust continues to adapt to ever-increasing noise limits.
